Quality and Process Control Manager

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

This position is responsible for the leadership and direction of quality systems and process control strategy related to the vinyl siding production process for the Holly Springs, MS plant. The incumbent will lead efforts to analyze and reduce process variation, develop preventive controls and ensure quality standards are upheld. Additionally, the incumbent will collaborate with Manufacturing, R&D, Central Engineering, Product Management and other critical functional areas to deliver on key organizational objectives with a specific focus on process control and quality systems.

  • Responsible for managing the Process Engineering function at the facility.
  • Collaborates with site leadership and Engineering to drive Operational Excellence through efficient and effective process controls and process design.
  • Administer process and product validation activities to ensure outputs meet requirements.
  • Lead the design and implementation of sustained processes and improvements for new and existing products, including documentation, visual management and training.
  • Maintain technical competence and keep informed on new developments in materials, process technology, and product applications to assure the most appropriate methods and materials are used.
  • Collaborates with site operations leadership to troubleshoot processing problems, and implement control & reaction procedures for operators.
  • Collaborates with site leadership, Engineering, and Operations for the planning and execution of experiments on current production processes and implement engineering improvements to optimize process windows.
  • Manage data collection, analysis, prioritization and presentation of results/recommendations for improvements to leadership team and R&D.
  • Identify and deliver cost reduction initiatives.
  • Lead efforts to assure process standardization to minimize variation.
  • Other duties as assigned

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

  • 10 years of Quality / Process Engineering experience in a manufacturing environment required
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or similar technical discipline required
  • Six Sigma green belt preferred
  • Fundamental understanding of quality philosophies, principles, systems, methods, tools, etc. required
  • Strong Technical writing and verbal communication skills required

Production Operator III, Finishing Specialist

We are a growing Company building our Wood Center of Excellence for our wood ceilings/panels offerings. In line with this, our Strongsville location is currently recruiting a Finishing Technician for 2nd shift.

The Finishing Technician is a 2nd shift position reporting directly to the Production Supervisor in Strongsville. The position is responsible for operating the technical aspects of the Finishing line to include operating spray booths, maintaining spray pumps, and participating in roller coating activities. In addition, the role will be responsible for loading/unloading product on the Finishing line when needed.

Schedule: 11:00am - 7:30pm Monday - Friday, OT as needed

Compensation: $19.00 - $24.00 an hour

What’s the job?

This position is primarily responsible for managing the day to day operations and production of gypsum wallboard in accordance with the Buchanan plant’s policies and objectives. This position is also responsible for setting a high standard for safety, quality, housekeeping, productivity and performance for all plant associates. Also responsible for empowering associates to make sound and timely decisions and resolve problems during operation.

  • Responsible for department safety and environmental compliance.
  • Ensure all employees are actively participating in CertainTeed’s Safety Culture including the Buchanan Plant Everybody, Everyday program
  • Ensure all departmental employees are trained as outlined in the CertainTeed Safety and Health Policy.
  • Ensure that the plant produces the required quantity and type of products required by the customer, and at the highest level of quality.
  • Ensures accuracy and completeness of reports for all shift activities in daily logs including needed maintenance items and explanations on production failures resulting in lower than standard performance.
  • Effectively communicates objectives and priorities with Supervisors, and ensures development and coaching activities, and performance conversations are conducted in a manner that further enhances the skills and effectiveness of the supervisor team.
  • Advocates and implements the messages from management, as well as operating philosophies.
  • Support the Continuous Improvement efforts for the production line. Support Kaizen events and follow up with Corrective Actions.
  • Oversees training of hourly and salaried associates and makes recommendations to the Production Manager for future training needs.
  • Manages the plant’s daily production function.
  • Direct the effective and efficient use of plant production equipment and associates.
  • Identify and schedule of preventive maintenance by production personnel
  • Provides recommendations on how to streamline and improve the process and improve process capability.
  • Analyzes all procedures to identify and eliminate redundancies, as well as provide feedback for process improvements. Follows exact formulation and process procedures as defined.
  • Ensures consistent and fair application of plant policies, as defined by the collective bargaining agreement, throughout department.
  • Maintains high degree of housekeeping and holds Supervisors accountable for assigned clean-up areas.
  • Provides shift coverage during any absences of the supervisors (vacation, leave, etc.)

Pay Transparency

Certain states require pay information be provided in job postings. The national pay range for this position is $89,500 to $138,500 per year, however, the base pay offered may vary depending on geographic region, internal equity, job-related knowledge, skills, and experience among other factors.

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 12% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The total target cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $100,200 to $155,100.

The Production Associate will be expected to perform all duties and responsibilities for the operations in his/her assigned area. Impact:

Maintains and installs equipment, troubleshoots machines and makes repairs to the facility.  Also responsible for other duties as assigned and determined by business needs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (includes the following; other duties may be assigned):

  • Safely performs machine repair and troubleshooting using OSHA and Saint-Gobain standards. 
  • Make repairs or fabricate equipment.
  • Disassemble production machinery and plant equipment to locate defective parts.
  • Remove and replace defective parts such as bushings, bearings, shafts, arbors, filters, pumps, gears and motors.
  • Reassemble production machinery and check manufactured parts to assure conformance to product specifications and proper functioning of equipment.
  • Perform repairs using the tools necessary to complete the task anywhere on the property.
  • Troubleshoot equipment or processes to determine root cause of problem to institute a corrective action including:

1.)   identify high maintenance problems and implement corrective procedures in a safe and efficient    manner.

2.) Interact with equipment manufacturers to troubleshoot and order replacement parts.

  • Paperwork, data entry and administrative tasks including:

1.) Maintain maintenance supply inventory records.

2.) Complete machine repair documentation using CMMS software.

3.) Participate as an active member on a WCM Pillar team.

4.) Specify and requisition electrical and mechanical materials.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

Education:

  • 2 years Technical Degree or apprenticeship in Maintenance, Mechanical or Electrical Field of study Preferred

Work Experience:

  • 3-5 Years Mechanical, electrical and pneumatic systems background with experience in industrial equipment maintenance or equivalent demonstrated ability required.

 Technical Skills:

  • Basic PC Skills including use of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook). Ability to manage multiple priorties and to clearly communicate information received in both written and verbal forms.
  • Ability to use shop math (add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions and decimals) and compute rate, ratio and percent and ability to reach and interpret basic measuring equipment
  • Ability to understand manufacturing processes and to read blue prints, writing schematics, sketches, equipment service manuals, sample parts and general instructions

Estimated starting salary for this position is $25 - $35 per hour for external applicants. In addition to the hourly base pay rate, this position is eligible for periodic bonus payments/an annual bonus. Saint-Gobain Research (SGR) North America is seeking a driven, talented, and energetic entry-level researcher to join our Sustainable Materials and Processing Technologies team. In this role, you will conduct hands-on laboratory experiments for key development programs, focusing on process and product development activities related to Saint-Gobain's extensive product line.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Material Science, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or other related disciplines.

    • Must possess a body of technical work commensurate with their years of experience including but not limited to demonstration of familiarity with statistical tools, data analysis, and drawing conclusions based on a collection of basic data and interpretation.

Principal Scientist - Polymer Materials and Adhesion

Saint-Gobain Research (SGR) North America is seeking a driven, talented, and experienced researcher to join our Sustainable Materials and Processing Technologies team. The ideal candidate will leverage her/his extensive research and project experience, as well as broad expertise in polymeric materials, process techniques, and products, to innovate and enhance Saint-Gobain’s extensive product lines by improving performance or reducing costs.

Essential Functions

  • Lead R&D projects in materials technology, collaborating effectively with R&D colleagues, product managers, product engineers, application engineers, and external customers.
  • Create and execute project plans, design and conduct experiments, analyze data, and present findings in both written and oral formats. Additionally, the candidate will propose projects and programs vital to the R&D direction of the group and be responsible for developing direct reports and others within the group.
  • Utilize broad technical background and experience to develop and/or improve products, processes, and performance, or reduce costs within a major product area.
  • Stay aware of new technology applications and competitive uses of the same in work with materials, products, and processes, and in the development of new knowledge. The candidate will apply this knowledge to personal research and products, making decisions on IP in agreement with upper management and business.

The qualified candidate will collaborate closely with internal and external partners and customers to enable the success of technology and product development and qualification. The candidate will rely on communication and people skills to identify customers’ unique needs and use creative problem-solving skills, combining literature search, scientific knowledge, and hands-on experiments. All of this will support current and next-generation products in high-performance materials and the construction material sectors.

The new team member will be a technical leader, leveraging their expertise in chemistry, material science, polymer science and engineering, and data analysis to understand how material structure-property relationships impact performance. The candidate will generate data to drive engineering and business decisions related to formulation, manufacturing processes, compliance, lifetime, and cost. Materials include thermoplastics and thermosets, composites, adhesives and sealants, novel green chemistries, and biopolymers with a focus on sustainability. Excellent communication and people skills are essential to effectively collaborate across all levels of the organization, influence others, and drive success in projects. The candidate is expected to understand gate process methodology/ideology and incorporate it into research projects.        

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

Required Qualifications

BS Degree with a minimum of 15+ years’ experience, or MS with 10+ years of experience, or PhD with 6+ years of experience in Chemistry, Materials Science, Polymer Science, Chemical Engineering or other related disciplines where technical judgement/accomplishments are demonstrated.

  • 6+ years of firsthand experience with formulation and process development in an industrial or research setting.
    • Must have practical and theoretical knowledge of polymer and composite materials – including formulation and structure-property relationships, performing standard material characterization and product tests, and interpreting the data and developing new tests.
  • Experience with industrial product and process development (minimum 6 years).
  • Experience with characterization and testing of polymeric materials (thermoplastics, thermosets, elastomers), composites, and adhesives & sealants, using a range of techniques, including thermal analysis (DSC, DMA, TGA), mechanical testing (tensile), imaging (SEM), spectroscopy (FTIR, NMR), and rheology.
  • Proven ability to champion efforts to drive HSE and environmental consciousness and lab safety.
  • Proven ability to think critically, learn and iterate quickly, strategize and organize tasks autonomously on assigned projects, and establish viable technical paths forward.
  • Proven ability to determine and execute IP strategy, monitor and summarize new IP, industry and scientific literature, and technical advances in key markets and technologies.
  • Experience with adhesives and sealants formulation and product development strongly preferred.
  • Experience with data analysis, statistics, modeling, and visualization tools preferred.

Essential Functions: • Reads blueprint drawings and work orders to understand and meet customer specifications. • Produces parts by following the work orders, blueprints, and programming folders. • Sets up molds for each work cell and maintains equipment by completing preventive maintenance requirements following manufacturer's instructions. • Maintains drawing specifications by observing process temperatures and injection pressures to detect non-conformances. • Verifies settings by measuring positions, first-run part, and sample work pieces. • Calculates dimensions and tolerances using knowledge of mathematics and instruments such as micrometers, Vernier calipers, and optical comparator. • Informs supervisors and team leads when machinery needs repairs. • Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with all company EH&S policies and procedures • Maintains work space before, during, and after each scheduled shift in accordance with 5S principles. • Contribute to team effort by performing other supporting tasks as directed by the Shift Supervisor. • Work in a manner that complies with all site policies and procedures, and actively demonstrates SG principles of conduct & action.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?
