Watch Operating Engineer (Boiler Operator)

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

The primary function of the Watch Operating Engineer is the operation, servicing and repairing of equipment falling under jurisdiction such as plant boilers and steam systems, air compressor systems, make up air/air condition systems and cooling water systems. The Operating Engineers also play an integral part in operating and maintaining the plant thermal oil systems.

Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct observation rounds, record logs and file reports of equipment data under
    jurisdiction.
  • Maintenance work as assigned relating to the steam plant and associated systems
  • Operate and maintain plant fuel oil system.
  • Operate and maintain plants emergency generator.
  • Operate and maintain plant air handling and make up air systems.
  • Operate and maintain the plant compressed air supply system including air
    compressors and refrigerated air dryers.
  • Operate & maintain plant cooling water system.
  • Operate & maintain water softening equipment including salt handling and loading.
  • Maintain desired chemistry specifications for steam and cooling water systems.
  • Attend all required safety meetings.

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

Qualifications & Skills:
  • Minnesota High Pressure Steam Operator License (1B or higher)
  • Familiarity with the plants Right-To-Know (Hazcom) program & SDS information.
  • Good working knowledge of mechanical equipment and steam systems operations.
  • Familiarity with MS Office applications.
  • Must complete and maintain forklift certification.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Become a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers - Local 70

  • The First Shift work schedule is 7:00 am to 3:30 pm

Setup, control, and operate chamfer equipment. Inspect & measure product characteristics to ensure acceptable quality level according to standard operating procedures, work instructions, check sheets, one-point lessons, visual guides and standards.

  • Work Safely at all times- using prescribed PPE, safe lifting techniques, assessing risk before beginning any task, handling materials & lubricants with care, maintaining vigilance with surroundings & co-workers.

Principales responsabilités

Production et opérations

  • Diriger les activités de production afin d’assurer que la production répond à la demande et aux exigences des clients.
  • Coordonner et prioriser les activités de travail.

Gestion de personnel

The Role

This position requires strong leadership skills, and the ability to interact with all departmental functions within the plant, including but not limited to safety training, repair of equipment, predictive maintenance planning, and preventative maintenance of existing machines.

  • Manage preventative and reactive maintenance programs to optimize production efficiency while minimizing maintenance costs. Conduct planning, scheduling, & budgeting maintenance activities

Quality Inspector 2nd shift. SCHEDULED MONDAY-FRIDAY 2:30PM-11:00PM, $23.00-$32.00 PER HOUR plus $1.00 shift differential. DOE.

A Quality Inspector will perform variety of inspection/test tasks in support of Manufacturing and other Customer-related processes. Inspections/tests (dimensional and visual) are performed in all stages of the manufacturing process, as well as related documentation.

Uses handheld measuring instruments and other precision measurement/test equipment to perform inspections/evaluations. Some inspections may take place in a cleanroom environment either onsite or offsite.
Perform visual inspections per specifications, router instructions, and/or procedures. This may include using magnification or other vision equipment. Must pass annual eye exam.
Inputs inspection/test results into designated databases/logs. Scans and maintains records of inspection results, material and process certificates and other quality documentation.

  • Maintain, troubleshoot, and repair mechanical and electrical equipment across the facility
  • Inspect and service plant systems including saws, dryers, mixers, conveyors, and mills
  • Repair and maintain hydraulic and pneumatic systems (air lines, solenoids, etc.)
  • Replace and repair electrical components (110V, 240V, 3-phase, and low-voltage controls)
  •  Read and interpret blueprints, drawings, and work orders to complete repairs accurately
  • Fabricate and weld parts for repairs, modifications, and equipment improvements
  • Prepare tools and parts in advance to complete jobs efficiently
  • Follow all safety procedures, including NFPA 70E and plant-specific SOPs
  • Maintain housekeeping standards and ensure safe work areas
  • Communicate and report safety incidents or concerns to leadership
  • Support additional maintenance tasks as assigned by the Maintenance Team Leader

The ideal candidate brings a strong mechanical and electrical foundation, along with the ability to read and apply technical information in a practical, hands-on environment. Strong communication and teamwork are essential, as this role regularly interfaces with operations, leadership, and other maintenance personnel.
 
**Key Requirements**

  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and deliver reliable, first-time quality results
  • Experience troubleshooting electronic control systems, including PLCs, control logic schematics, and instrumentation (preferred)
  • Ability to read, interpret, and work from blueprints, drawings, and technical manuals
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS)
  • General building maintenance skills, including minor electrical work, pipe fabrication, and facility repairs
  • Working knowledge of shop tools and basic construction tasks (metal framing, drywall, painting, concrete repair, etc.)
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to layout, cut, and fit complex parts
  • Experience with mechanical systems such as hydraulics, ventilation, fuel systems, cooling systems, and HVAC (preferred)
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work effectively within a team environment
  • Commitment to safety, quality, and continuous improvement
     

**Working Conditions**

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including days, nights, weekends, and holidays as needed
  • Ability to work 12-hour shifts in a manufacturing environment
  • Willingness to work overtime as required
  • Work performed in an industrial setting with exposure to noise, dust, temperature changes, and other typical plant conditions
  • Must maintain reliable attendance and meet scheduling expectations
