Project Engineer

What’s the job?

The Project Engineer is designed to accomplish goals of the organization by the judicious application of knowledge and experience in facilities management, project planning, selection, purchase, installation, operation & maintenance, modifications & modernization of equipment & systems, to improve the working environment, maintain and protect physical facilities, and increase productivity. The position requires technical skills and knowledge of the process as well as strong capabilities in clear communication, planning, scheduling, organizing, cost control, and earned value calculations.

Position will help bolster plant operations relative to engineering needs. Projects are varied from small to significant assignments of broader programs involving existing processes. Projects may involve annual objectives and a team effort. May provide technical direction to non-exempt personnel or line supervisors and operators but does not have regular supervisory responsibility.

This person oversees supplemental personnel, (contractors). The incumbent will receive instructions on task specifications and design constraints, as well as technical direction during assignments. Will be responsible for planning the details, sequence, and priority of tasks to meet established time targets of which progress and results will be periodically reviewed. Long term, mid-term and daily planning are a key aspect of the position responsibilities.

This position reports to the Maintenance Manager.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

  • Develop new or modify existing equipment, machines or processes to improve product quality, service reliability, reduce costs or increase capacity.
  • Perform calculations and cost estimates of plant systems.
  • Plan project work through team coordination meeting and scheduling.
  • Troubleshoot and make improvements of operations, efficiency and safety.
  • Consult with engineers and maintenance personnel on projects, problems and techniques to resolve critical situations expeditiously and achieve production goals.
  • Update and maintain current documentation of mechanical specifications, drawings and safety procedures.
  • Knowledgeable in the effective use of Six Sigma principles, tools and methods.
  • Define the problems of requesting department, and translate them into engineering solutions through innovation and advanced engineering approaches to respond in and efficient and timely manner to production meds and requirements.
  • Apply WCM tools to projects and processes to improve quality, reduce defects and thereby improving costs
  • Report all EH&S incidents – Injuries/Recordable, Near Misses, First Aid, Environmental and Property/Equipment Damage.
  • Ensure adherence to Waste Management and Recycling responsibilities.
  • Participate in Incident & Near Miss Investigations to determine root cause and corrective actions.

WHAT ARE THE REQUIREMENTS?

What do you bring?

  • BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, PE is a plus.
  • CAD knowledge required. 
  • 2 – 10 years design and engineering experience, manufacturing setting preferred. 
  • Ability to project design and management for process and machines.
  • Proven ability in problem analysis and resolution.
  • Must have good "interpersonal skills" to work effectively with personnel throughout all levels of the organization.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Must have project management experience including daily management of contractors and plant skilled trade employees during project implementation. 
  • Advanced computer skills with emphasis in Microsoft Office Programs.
  • Six Sigma experience and working knowledge is a plus.

Position Summary

The main purpose of this position is to ensure the uninterrupted throughput of material within Bailey Metal Processing Limited, Princeton location.

The Machine Operator's main responsibility is to produce in a safe, productive, and profitable manner.  The operator will work in various stations throughout the facility as directed.

Responsibilities:

What you’ll do:

  • Read, understand, and verify production work orders.
  • Verify that the correct coils are being used for processing.
  • Follow established SOPs, including operation and setup of machinery.
  • Process coils, ensuring quality and customer tolerances are adhered to, and complete quality documentation accurately.
  • Monitor/inspect equipment for safe operation and/or any maintenance requirements.
  • Responsible for the safety of his team members; should never operate the machine when someone is inside the guarded area.
  • Operate overhead crane (training will be provided in-house).
  • Perform daily and weekly preventative maintenance.
  • Semi-automatic welding and robotic welding operation (training will be provided in-house).
  • All other duties appropriate to the position as assigned or required by the Supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • High school or equivalent job experience.
  • Knowledge of roll-forming, welding, and/or robot operation as an asset.
  • Able to read standard/metric measuring tape.
  • Able to perform basic mathematical calculations in either standard/metric units.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Ability to read, understand, and comply with work directions, training manuals, and safety rules.
  • Strong teamwork mentality.
  • High attention to detail and accuracy.

Electrical Planner

Coordinating of planned maintenance jobs in order to minimize costs and production downtime by the proper use of craft work force, materials and services. KNOWLEDGE & COMPETENCIES (SKILLS & ABILITIES): Position requires a minimum of an associate degree in a technical field, and/or requisite maintenance experience that lends itself to a working knowledge of machines, their operation and spare parts needs. Must demonstrate core competencies of effective communications, listening, and have strong organizational skills. Must understand purchasing procedures and MRO parts distribution, be computer literate, and have knowledge of computerized maintenance systems, or possess the ability to learn. Position is dedicated to providing direction for machine repairs and tracking of needed parts. Planners must be comfortable with physical aspects of the plant's environment; i.e., working with various byproducts of raw materials used in the operation.

Moving equipment such as fork lifts, buggies, genie booms and industrial sweepers travel throughout the facility, sometimes in congested areas.

Quality Lab Technician

WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

Primary Functions:

The successful candidate will possess solid knowledge of the roofing shingle manufacturing process and will act as a liaison between quality and manufacturing. Conducts routine and assigned testing for glass mat, granules, asphalts, and other raw materials, finished product, in-process conditions, and maintains the laboratory, its supplies and equipment. This position is also responsible for data collection, inspection, interpreting data, and responsible for acting in a timely manner. Candidate must display an understanding or demonstrated ability to learn quality systems as this individual will work closely with the management team to improve and sustain the facilities ISO 9001 management system and registration.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Conduct raw material, process & finished product testing and process audits, and physical inspection of glass mat, granules, asphalt, and other raw materials, reporting thoroughly, concisely, and timely
  • Conduct inspection of finished goods
  • Complete daily inspection sheets
  • Provide laboratory technical support to operations as directed
  • Effectively communicate with operators and
  • Monitor defective product during production & assist in the root cause to the process upset
  • Must be able to work closely with plant production personnel to resolve quality issues
  • Ensures compliance with corporate standards and legislation
  • Must be able to generate charts, reports, and PowerPoint presentations, and assesses compliance with standards
  • Participate on improvement teams and actively participate in driving business results as a member of the quality team
  • Must be able to learn and perform testing on coating, saturant, laminate, 67-22, HPS, and finished product tears
  • Backup Principal Lab Technician: will be required to perform other duties as requested, directed, or assigned

In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for an annual bonus. The targeted bonus amount is 9% of base salary based on company and individual performance measures. The Total Target Cash range (base pay and annual bonus) for this position, is $87,200-TTC to $98,100-TTC. Bonus payments are part of variable compensation and by nature can vary based on company and individual performance and is not a guarantee.
