Saint-Gobain Canada kicks off fifth year of Habitat for Humanity Canada partnership with impactful community Engagement Day in Hamilton

Saint-Gobain Canada is proud to announce today the renewal of its support of Habitat for Humanity Canada for the fifth consecutive year, with a national partnership combining cash grants and in-kind product donations valued at $280,000 CAD. Anchored in the company’s purpose of Making the World a Better Home, this philanthropic collaboration directly connects back to Habitat’s work of making homeownership accessible for more families.

A cash grant from the Saint-Gobain North America Foundation will help advance Habitat’s essential programs, including the Indigenous Housing Partnership. In-kind donations of Saint-Gobain Canada’s products will offer high quality and sustainable solutions that can help build stronger Canadian communities and will offer volunteering hours for Habitat Build/Repair Days and Habitat ReStore Engagement Days throughout the year.

“At Saint-Gobain, we work every day on making the built environment more resilient through our portfolio of sustainable construction solutions. Our philanthropic partnership with Habitat for Humanity Canada highlights the shared commitment of our organizations to build more resilient communities across Canada,” shares Jean-Claude Lasserre, CEO, Saint-Gobain Canada. “The work we have accomplished together throughout the span of the past five years in local communities where we operate is providing real support for a brighter future. We look forward to continuing this important work together.”

To mark the five-year milestone, Saint-Gobain’s teams from Agway Metals, The Bailey Group of Companies, CertainTeed, Chryso and Kaycan came together to support a Habitat Repair Day in Hamilton on Thursday, June 11.

"Saint-Gobain’s commitment to Making the World a Better Home truly comes to life through this collaboration,” shares Pedro Barata, President & CEO of Habitat for Humanity Canada.  “Together, we have supported families across Canada in building not just houses, but the stability, opportunity, and hope that come with a safe and affordable place to call home.”

Since 2021, Saint-Gobain’s contributions have helped generate positive and meaningful impact across the country, including:

  • Helping 338 families move into new Habitat homes across Canada through product and direct donations and build site volunteering;
  • Building 41 new homes and rehabilitating or repairing 135 homes for Indigenous families living on or off reserve;
  • Saint-Gobain employees contributing 1,279 volunteer hours on Habitat build sites in Burnaby, Calgary, Winnipeg, Burlington, Hamilton, Mississauga, Toronto, Oshawa, and Montreal;
  • Contributing over $1,015,000 CAD in financial support and product donations:
    • Supporting Habitat Canada's Indigenous Housing Partnership to help local Habitats worked alongside Indigenous families, communities, and housing experts across Canada. This work advances community-led, culturally appropriate housing solutions, supports skills development and training within Indigenous communities, and strengthens local Habitat capacity to collaborate with Indigenous communities;
    • Supporting the Habitat Canada national sustainability program that helps to offset the additional costs associated with incorporating sustainable and energy efficient materials into Habitat homes, improving the energy efficiency and longevity of Habitat homes, and lowering energy and maintenance costs for homeowners;
    • And offering Saint-Gobain product donations to ensure that Habitat homes are built with high quality materials.

Philanthropy with a purpose

At the core of Saint-Gobain’s purpose, the Group strives every day in Making the World a Better Home. This higher mission also comes to life through the Saint-Gobain North America Foundation’s meaningful philanthropic activities in the communities where we operate and live.

The Direct Grants program supports non-profit organizations that align with the Foundation's four pillars contributing to (1) the construction of affordable/accessible housing, (2) sustainability and sustainable construction, (3) strategic workforce development or (4) STEM and manufacturing-related education programs.
