Saint-Gobain Announces Agreement for Acquisition of Electric Glass Fiber America’s Lexington, NC Glass Fiber Operations

Saint-Gobain, the worldwide leader in light and sustainable construction, today announced it had entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a glass fiber plant located in Lexington, NC from Nippon Electric Glass’ Electric Glass Fiber America (EGFA) subsidiary.

The plant has been a longstanding supplier for Saint-Gobain North America's CertainTeed’ roofing and gypsum businesses in the region, producing high-quality raw materials used to manufacture glass mat, a key component to produce asphalt roofing shingles, and gypsum wallboard. This acquisition provides Saint-Gobain North America with greater control of and consistency in its supply chain while maintaining high product quality standards.

The acquisition is expected to close on July 31, 2026. As a part of the deal, approximately 90 EGFA employees will be joining Saint-Gobain, effective immediately upon closing. The plant will continue normal operations as the team transitions into Saint-Gobain's ADFORS business, which is a global leader in construction and industrial fiberglass and textiles.

“The team at the EGFA Lexington plant have been reliable partners for Saint-Gobain for more than a decade and we’re excited to add their high-quality glass wet chop to our production capabilities,” said Patrick Dwyer, President of Abrasives and Construction Fabrics, Saint-Gobain North America. “I am also thrilled to welcome the Lexington plant employees to the Saint-Gobain ADFORS team. Their reputation for hard work, being strong partners to their local community, and prioritizing a safe operating environment will make for a seamless transition as we prepare to support their onboarding to our organization.”

“North Carolina is a state with a proud history of supporting the manufacturing industry and we’re excited to be adding another Saint-Gobain North America plant to our family of facilities in the region,” said Mark Rayfield, President and CEO, Saint-Gobain North America. “This strategic investment is another example of our commitment to maintaining a reliable supply chain that supports our regional model of manufacturing building materials where they will be used, designed for the unique local conditions. We’re looking forward to welcoming the EGFA Lexington team to Saint-Gobain.”

The 1.2 million square foot Lexington plant, which opened its doors in 1967, is set on 203 acres. The newly acquired site expands Saint-Gobain North America’s manufacturing presence in the state with current locations in Claremont, Oxford and Roxboro. The investment reinforces the company's commitment to growth in the state and increases the total number of North Carolina employees to nearly 750.
