WHY DO WE NEED YOU?

As an Aerospace facility, the Ravenna site produces radomes (nose of the plane) and focuses on balancing structural requirements of aircraft with providing optimal range for radar systems.
 
As a Paint Production Operator, your primary function will be to paint radomes and other composite parts using standardized procedures, work instructions, and controlled documents.
 
The position is for 3rd shift (MONDAY-FRIDAY, 11:00 PM-7:00 AM)
 
The shift differential for 3rd shift is an additional $.40 per hour in addition to base pay. Starting Pay $26.09 per hour + $0.40 shift differential
 
Yearly bonus incentive and overtime available for this position.
 
Major duties/responsibilities:

  • Working from controlled documents, painting composite parts
  • Work with engineers and others as required
  • Work with various paints, filler compounds, primers, solvents, and related materials
  • Report on non-conforming products and processes
  • Identify and report process problems during production of parts
  • Initiate, solicit and implement cost reduction ideas
  • Initiate problem resolution
  • Maintain compliance with all ISO procedural requirements
  • Maintain compliance with all health, safety and environmental regulations
  • Maintain and promote good housekeeping practices
  • Train others on methods and procedures
  • And other duties as assigned by Management

 

IS THIS JOB FOR YOU?

  • High school diploma or equivalent experience
  • Ideally experience with paint spraying equipment and surface preparation equipment (e.g. powered hand sanders, grinders, etc.)
  • Ability to pass a respirator fit test
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Detail Oriented
  • High attendance standards
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE/ABILITIES REQUIRED:

Basic drawing reading: Operator requires skills necessary to read a drawing and understand the requirements defined in the drawing as to part definition and layout. Skills include:

  • Understanding and use of dimensions and tolerances
  • Understanding and drawing symbology, views, rotations, and cross sections
  • Locating part features and dimensions

Stripping paint and finishes: Operator requires skills necessary to remove paint and finishing materials from radomes and composite structures, including:

  • Masking components as required
  • Selecting the correct sandpaper, materials and equipment to strip parts
  • Knowing proper hand sanding and power sanding methods to remove paint and protect the laminate and delicate hardware
  • Identification of laminate damage

 Sand, fill, spray-on fillers: Operator requires skills necessary to clean and sand surfaces smooth, mask product surfaces, mix and apply filler materials, including:

  • Recognition and proper processing of surface imperfections
  • Use of vibratory sanders and sanding media
  • Use of masking tapes and paper to keep products clean from overspray
  • Material mixing and measuring equipment
  • Spray gun operation and cleaning procedures
  • Wipe on and squeegee techniques and practices

 Priming: Operator requires skills necessary to clean and sand surfaces smoothly, mask product surfaces, mix and apply primers to parts, including:

  • Application of all primer types onto parts
  • Use of vibratory sanders and sanding media
  • Use of masking tapes and paper to keep products from overspray
  • Material mixing and measuring equipment

 Antistatic paint: Operator requires skills necessary to properly mix, apply and verify these types of specialty coatings, including:

  • Ratio and mix coatings
  • Understanding of the function and method by which the coatings work
  • Understanding of coating’s effect on transmission
  • Applying with spray equipment to precise thickness requirements
  • Understanding of cure times unique to these coatings
  • Checking with electronic tools for performance

 Urethane coatings: Operator requires skills necessary to apply an acceptable finish coat of paint on finished products, including:

  • Metering and mixing coatings.
  • Use and control spray equipment
  • Mechanics of actual spraying
  • Applying the various coatings including multi-colors/stripping
  • Relationship of velocity, speed, flow, distance from part, spray gun angle to coating finish
  • Understanding curing methods
  • Types of anomalies and their causes

Erosion coatings: Operator requires skills necessary to apply the different types of erosion coating utilized for finishing radomes and composite structures.

  • Masking components as required
  • Metering and mixing materials
  • Understanding of techniques for thickness (buildup)
  • Basic problem-solving techniques

Starting Pay $26.09 per hour plus a $.40 shift premium per hour, yearly bonus incentive and overtime available for this position.
